Smoking and Alzheimers

A friend of mine smokes and whenever anyone tells him it is bad for him, he says it helps delay Alzheimer's disease. Is this true?

My mom used to use tobacco products when I was growing up. One day she stopped using it because she heard it could cause cancer. We, her children, knew something was wrong when she started back using it almost 25 years later. She told us it helped to 'calm her nerves'. We tried to convice her to stop using it but when we learned she had Alzheimer's, we decided not to pressure her anymore about it. If it helps to calm her nerves, then we are willing to live with it. We call it love. What do you think?

Also, see my blog: "Alzheimersandmom" which tells how my siblings and I cope with our mom having Alzheimer's.

I just wrote a comment on my mom's return to tobacco products after she got Alzheimer's. For information on how we, her children, are coping with our Mom and her Alzheimer's, the correct blog is "Alzheimersandmoma@blogspot.com".
